Private Cooking Classes

We must stop pretending that conditions or diseases are ‘caught’ or just ‘happen’.
We are not victims. We do not catch diseases. We build them.
We have to eat, drink, think and feel them into existence.
We work hard at developing our dis-eases.
We must work just as hard at restoring our health.
— Dr. B. Jensen from Empty Harvest

In-Person or Virtual Cooking Classes according to Ayurvedic principles

Private cooking classes are custom-created to suit your specific needs. Invite friends over and cook along with me in-person or online. Create delicious family-friendly meals that are Vegan, Vegetarian or Pescatarian. Learn the use of spices in the Ayurvedic tradition, to create meals that invite the senses and are balanced for easy digestion.

I have been a student of Ayurveda for more than a decade and have navigated life through exploring food cultures. Ayurveda considers food to be one of the most important pillars of health.

Ayurveda views the health of the body as the functioning of a biological fire called AGNI. Not just the power for digestion but the creative flame that works behind everything.

Ayurveda is restorative. That means restoring your health is key. Not to punish the ‘dis-ease’. Disease is simply understood as an imbalance between the nerve energy of Vata, the catabolic fire energy of Pitta and the anabolic nutritive energy of Kapha.

Eating according to the Ayurvedic tradition has always been second nature for me. I grew up surrounded by a large extended family where eating healthy unprocessed food was the norm. And for the past 20 years, I have led a nomadic life spanning 5 continents, which has provided me with a discerning, international palette along with the ability to create interesting, healthy meals satisfying the most discriminating gourmet taste buds while incorporating all the authentic flavors and aromas of India. “I studied cooking with Rashmi more than 2 decades ago. Her recipes from that class “An Indian Picnic in the Park” are among my favorite meals! My family delights in the combinations of vegetables and spices that she created. She brings life and food health and spirit together!”

Lisa Gittens Williams, MD

“Finding the time to cook healthy meals was a real struggle for me in the past couple of years. I realized I cannot take my health and body for granted but I was not sure how to make it happen as I have a full schedule, until I met Rashmi Zimburg and interviewed her for my Tandem Nomads podcast. My husband and I are having so much fun testing her recipes and weekly meal plan! I’m not going to lie, it does require accepting to change some old habits and have some organization, but the organization is what makes save the time and have all the delicious and healthy meals ready for the week.”
